The story

Nestled in the tranquil countryside of Mgarr, Malta, surrounded by lush gardens and breathtaking views, Castello Zamittello stands as a timeless symbol of love and history. Built in 1804 by Sir Giuseppe Nicolo Zammit, a distinguished knight of the Order of St. Michael and St. George, the castle was originally designed as a summer residence and hunting lodge at the heart of his expansive estate. Known to his friends as "Zamittello," Sir Giuseppe also named his primary residence, Domus Zamittello, after himself — now a charming boutique hotel in Valletta. After his passing, Sir Giuseppe's body was interred in St. John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta, a fitting tribute to his legacy.

As you enter the main entrance of Castello Zamittello, you’ll notice initials and dates carved into the stone, marking a heartfelt tradition. These inscriptions honour the descendants and relatives of couples who began their married life within the castle’s walls, with the most recent marking being Countess Margaret Manduca and Count Francis Manduca on October 18th, 1957 — the parents of the current Count and owner. This custom, passed down through the generations, celebrates love and commitment, making the castle a truly special place to begin a new chapter in life.
